In Plovdiv, one of the most scenic views in ‘the old town’ is this Eastern Orthodox church that is at the top of a steep hill, overlooking the entire city of Plovdiv. From the church, you can see the historical district and the new city side by side. The streets on the way up to the church are made from the original stone bricks dating back to the Roman Empire. The architecture of each building on the way up the hill is evidence of every passing culture that has made it’s mark on the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. Each civilization has imprinted the city with it’s culture, customs, faith, joy and the pain. Week after week, people climb the hill to pray and worship in the same place.
