Many parts of Bulgarian culture are influenced by our Neighbor, Turkey. Infamous examples are the Turkish Soap Operas that almost every Bulgarian auntie/uncle loves to watch. My favorite Turkish word is ‘Komsu’ (Neighbor). That word comes with so much warmth and comfort, despite the pain and trauma that exists between our cultures.
This style of art was inspired by Gergana Lalova’s work, which I discovered in the Philippopolis gallery in Plovdiv.
